There are a lot of rumors swirling around about Baatin from the reasons why he left Slum Village (and then came back) or about his mental illness. Who really gives a fuck. The man was nice on the mic. An interesting fellow from the words, delivery, tonal changes and even his look (used to don a turban). He coined one of the greatest lines ever with “Fuck this rap shit, I listen to classical…”. It really summed up the frustration with wack ass rap music. Well, here is some footage we caught from Rock The Bells just a few weeks ago in Jones Beach. I had it just for personal viewing since we love slum but now it means even more to us. Matter ov Fact and I were so hyped to see S Villa and it was even more beautiful to see Baatin. This is really unfortunate news to hear especially since they have a new album that’s about to drop.
Rest in peace Baatin. You had quotables for days and one of the most unique deliveries ever.
Not only have The Smoking Section shown love since day one but they get what The Doppelgangaz are all about. When we see write ups like this, it makes us proud to know that there are other weirdos in the world that can appreciate the ideas linked with the ghastly duo. So J. Tinsley especially, we would like to thank you for all of your support and continued success to you and your staff.
After you finish salivating over our BLAWG, it is advised that you make your way over to 21-7 Mag and check out their latest installment. If you remember, they featured the Ghastly Duo in issue #6 and have shown us tons of love. They are always on the “up and up” with the latest artists, fashion, technology and so on. Check them out. Special shout out to Loniiiann and X.
A great gathering of music savvy people enjoying a beautiful day in Brooklyn while eating, drinking and talking business. We had the pleasure of meeting/seeing Dallas Penn, Combat Jack, Eskay, Statik Selektah, J. Period, Craig G, Joe Scudda, Paul Cantor, Fresh Daily, P.So, Miss Info and the list goes on.
A perfect day for great Hip Hop acts to come out and bless the stage. We got in Free.99 thanks to our manager Adam “Scooby” Herard, his pops Mike Heron (Joell Ortiz’ manager) and Kino (Royce’s Manager). Scoob even had the pleasure to meet PRON star Sara Jay. Click below for more pics.
Check out the interview we did with the good folks at 21-7 Magazine. Much props to “X” (who did the interview) for dealing with our antics.
Here’s a portion of the interview:
21-7: What do you guys do before a studio session? What gets you in the zone to get a track done?
Matter ov Fact: Well first I rent a school bus out, then on my way to the basement lab I pick up like 30 Middletown smuts, right. To make a long story short our sessions consist of alotta cocaine, alotta loose women and a little work being done.
EP: Yeah, that’s about right.
